Both caulk and silicone are used to close the gaps between building materials, but because they have differing qualities, they are best suited for alternate uses. Caulking can be painted but is more solid and vulnerable to shrinkage. Although silicone is more flexible and can handle temperature changes better. Painting on silicone is always a challenge.
