About Buderim, QLD
Buderim is an urban centre on the Sunshine Coast approximately 95 km’s from Brisbane. It is situated on and around a volcanic plateau rising 180 metres above the Pacific Ocean, central to the whole of the Sunshine Coast with only a 10 minute drive from the idyllic beaches of Mooloolaba, Maroochdore and Alexandra Headlands. The name Buderim originates from an aboriginal word for the “Hairpin Honeysuckle” which grew abundantly in the sandy country around the plateau. The area is now characterized by lush leafy green streets and lined with Poinciana trees and flowering shrubs. Packed with village atmosphere, Buderim offers up a taste of diversity from its serene heights, servicing locals and tourists alike with boutique shopping, art and craft and a vibrant eating and café culture. For a dose of history visitors can head back in time at the Pioneer Cottage or for a touch of nature the Buderim Forest Waterfall Walk is a rainforest world of tall trees, ferns babbling waterfalls, cascades and bird-calls. There is a special kinship with the locals, which began its roots soon after the war. In 1945 600 farming locals decided to establish the Buderim Water Memorial Association, rather than erect a statue monument, they began a living memorial that still operates today. World renowned for “Buderim Ginger” and noted for it’s quality and mild taste, golden colour and fibre-free consistency Buderim Ginger factory earned global recognition in 1990’s for producing the World's Finest Ginger. Still in operation at Yandina the factory produces everything from packets of scrumptious crystalized ginger to ginger beer! A unique sense of community, this thriving little town is has been voted one of the top “sea change” destinations in Australia.
