Sadly, while I was away and my cats were in the cattery, I had to let go of one of them due to an undiagnosed enlarged heart and sudden heart failure. It was devastating—she was my soul cat. The cattery did the right thing by getting her to the vet, but my experience since has been awful. On collecting my other cat, no one offered condolences, not even a simple “I’m sorry.” It was as if Darcy never existed. I later emailed, thanking them for helping Darcy but also providing polite feedback about the cold reception. Instead of acknowledging it, they became highly defensive, saying, “It’s not our job to love your cat.” I found that callous and deeply hurtful, especially while grieving. Emails continued, the owner sent abusive responses, and they even deleted a review reply. While I still thank them for taking her to the vet, I cannot recommend this cattery—not for my cat’s passing, but for their lack of empathy and hostile treatment of a grieving customer.
