  • What measures can I take to reduce my risk of skin cancer?

    Getting vitamin D from the sun is always good for your skin, however it is important to monitor your exposure as too much can cause serious harm. Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and any shelter or shade are important precautions that should be taken to help counter extended exposure to UV radiation. Additionally avoid using indoor tanning devices as they emit great amounts of UV radiation.

Our doctor is a general practitioner completed F.R.A.C.G.P in 2011 and does general practice with special interest in Minor surgical procedures under local anesthesia.

Our doctor has obtained Certificate in Advanced Dermatoscopy and Histopathology from University of Queensland and performs Skin cancer surgeries in particular on face, nose, ears, lips, eyelids and lower limbs. We also perform skin flaps and skin grafts very successfully.

Minor surgical procedures under local anaesthesia which are done in our clinic are Carpal Tunnel Release, vasectomy, release of Dupyetrens contracture, ganglions etc.

Our operation theatre is well equipped, and the staff is well trained.

Being a general practitioner we undertake chronic disease management, joint injections, immunisations, travel medicine, womens health, paediatrics, mens health and mental health.

Most importantly, we deal with obesity and related diseases like hypertension and diabetes very efficiently and effectively with excellent results.

Qualifications obtained are M.B.B.S. (India 1971 ), M.S. ( India 1975), F.R.A.C.G.P. ( Australia 2011) and a Certificate in Dermatoscopy ( U Q Australia 2016).

Dr Prashanta Mitra - Prashanta worked as a staff specialist surgeon in Queensland Health at the Mount Isa Base Hospital. His work has mainly consisted of consultations and operations of various outreach hospitals. While working in the outback, he realised that skin cancer is quite common amongst the people who live in the outback. He chose to be a GP and qualified as FRACGP and undertook advanced study in dermatology in the University of Queensland, He performs skin cancer excisions with flaps and grafts on the face, neck, nose, ears and lips.
Prashanta also performs the carpel tunnel release, trigger finger release and ganglion removal on the hand and wrist.

Dr.Farzana Mitra - having practiced as an anaesthetist for a considerable number of years, she qualifies in PAIN MANAGEMENT. She has taken advanced training in Austria. She has also worked in Queensland Health as a medical officer in charge of Persistent Pain Management at the Townsville Hospital. She is deeply passionate about healing the patients with Chronic Non-Cancer Pain. Dr Farzana has undertaken training in Laser Therapy, also known as Photo-Bio Modulation and she routinely helps the patients with laser.

Dr Kapana Singh - Dr Kapana is a senior doctor, who has worked in Townsville as a qualified Gynaecologist since 2003. Special interest in Vulval and vaginal skin conditions, cervical abnormalities, fertility, contraception, Poly-cystic ovaries, menstrual and urinary problems.

Dr Shahead Chowdhury - having worked in Japan and Australia as a research scholar in diabetes and immunology, Shahead qualifies as a FRACGP and his domain of interest apart from GP is diabetology, aboriginal health and management of DVA patients. Dr Shahead is a valuable addition to the practice.
