Kirwan is a major suburb of Townsville in Queensland. It is situated close the Ross River and also to the main motorway, the A1. Two main schools, Ryan Catholic College, a combined, co-educational, primary and secondary school and Willows State School service the suburb. Home to the renowned National Rugby League team, the North Queensland Cowboys is the Dairy Farmers Stadium and the Brothers League Club. Willows Shopping Centre, one of Townsville’s major shopping centres is located in Kirwan, which houses endless eateries and boasts over 130 retail outlets. Cannon Park also central, offers restaurants and shopping, a cinema and a military memorial in the form of a WWII era cannon, dedicated to the 18 servicemen lost when two Blackhawk helicopters collided on a night exercise in 1996 on the Hervey Range nearby. In Proximity to the suburb of Kirwan is the Riverway Precinct. A major community complex, offering locals lagoon swimming, equivalent to the size of 3 Olympic swimming pools nestled amongst shady trees, barbeque and park facilities, night markets and a public walking trail displaying work from local artists. The Riverway Arts Centre and Pinnacles Gallery, host an array of exhibits and events, including shows and relaxed contemporary cuisine at the C-Bar Café. Riverway has a number of meeting rooms, performance spaces and parkland areas that can be hired for corporate, social and special events.
