Thank you so much for the compassion and care you showed us. It was a very traumatic time for us as we fare-welled our most treasured & loved pet, Kitty.

About

Mount Isa Veterinary Surgery is specialist vet practice catering for small animals providing pet care, health care and surgery for dogs, cats, small pets and fauna.

Mount Isa Veterinary Surgery was commenced in the late 60’s by Dr Gordon Barnett. Initially located in West Street, the surgery moved to its present location in Ryan Road when the new premises were completed late 1974. In 1979 Dr. Len Fulham joined the practice and in 1982 the surgery was split into two parts - Gordon continued the rural practice while Len purchased the town practice. Around 2001 it was decided to restrict the practice to small animals.

We like to keep our patients healthy, so our Ryan Road vet practice provides all the essential health care products and services including vaccinations, parasite control and speciality pet foods. Desexing is an important part of maintaining a happy pet and is recommended if there is no intention to breed.

Unfortunately pet injuries and illness happen, so our Mount Isa vet surgery is equipped with the latest diagnostic instruments (blood analysers, X Ray, Ultrasound, endoscopy etc) and operated by skilled staff. We stock a comprehensive inventory of drugs for treatment plus a large range of soft tissue and orthopaedic instruments when pet surgery is required. Referral to specialist centres is offered when needed. We draw most of our clients from the immediate Mount Isa area, however we welcome clients from the surrounding region.

STAFF
Len Fulham has been the principal veterinary surgeon since 1979. Len Graduated from the University of Queensland in 1975. After a short stint on the family prawn trawler in the Gulf of Carpentaria, he worked as a vet in Perth, the UK and finally Mount Isa. Len’s interests outside the clinic include photography, astronomy and traveling Australia and overseas.

Sandra Fulham commenced at the surgery in 1979 and is a qualified Veterinary Nurse, graduating top of the state in 1990. Since then Sandra has done further courses in dental care, orthopaedic nursing and workplace training. Although retired, Sandra still works part time as a mentor to the three lay staff Amie, Celine and Sam who are at varied levels of training.

EQUIPMENT
The practice is well equipped and has been an early adopter of new technologies. Examples are the early installation of automatic X Ray processing in 1982, the first VetTest biochemistry analyser in Queensland in 1991, the second LaserCyte haematology analyser in Queensland in 2005 and the acquisition of a new cruciate repair system in 2013.
