    About Benowa, QLD
Benowa is a suburb of the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland. The town’s name is derived from the Aboriginal word Boonow that means “red bloodwood tree”. Records of settlement history show that Benowa has been inhabited in as early as the 1870s. During this time, the land was used for farming, sugarcane production and timber-getting. Benowa was also the name of the Muir family sugar plantation stationed on the northern bank of the Nerang River in the late 1800s. Today, Benowa is generally a residential community with nearby shopping centres, local businesses and a variety of medical practices and specialist suites, as well as the Pindara Private Hospital. Benowa is also home to the Surfers Paradise Australian Football Club, Surfers Paradise Baseball Club and the Benowa Bowls Club, which are based in Sir Bruce Small Park, the local sporting oval. Nearby accommodation includes the globally renowned Royal Pines Resort, home of local and international golf tournaments and professional tennis tours. For places to dine, Benowa has several options including the Royal Pines Resort, the Benowa Tavern and a variety of local cafes and takeaway restaurants.
