About Sunshine Coast, QLD
The Sunshine Coast metropolitan area is the third most populated in the State of Queensland. Located 100 km’s north of the state capital Brisbane its urban area spans approximately 60 km’s of coastline and hinterland from Pelican Waters to Tewantin. The area comprises several coastal hubs, being Caloundra, Kawana Waters, Maroochydore, Noosa Heads, with Nambour and Maleny the primary commercial centres for the Hinterland region. Sunshine Coasts’ towns began as simple ports or jetties for the timber industry during the 60’s and 70’s as the area had magnificent stands of forest but today the economy in the area is dominated by tourism, retail and construction. It is emerging as a “hotspot” for entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers with a focus on natural, organic and green knowledge based businesses across all sectors. There is also a cultural, creative vibe to the area, a taste of which can be seen at the famous Eumundi markets and through the many individual businesses throughout the region. Exhibiting a superb subtropical climate and home to more individual National Parks than any other Queensland region means recreational activities on offer for nature lovers is endless. Glasshouse Mountains National Park is perhaps the most iconic of these, with the tip of Mount Beerwah sitting at 556 metres above sea level, a site to behold, when driving through the Sunshine Coast. Pristine beaches for surfers and sunbathers alike, alfresco dining, cafe’s and world class boutique shopping in the quaint seaside towns prove why the Sunshine Coast is a centre of tourism attracting over 3 million visitors per year. Significant attractions are; Steve Irwins’ Australia Zoo, Underwater World, Aussie World with the famous Ettamogah Pub, The Buderim Ginger Factory and, opened in 1971 the Heritage-listed “Big Pineapple”. The Sunshine Coast also hosts the Mooloolaba Triathlon, Noosa Triathlon and the Sunshine Coast Marathon.
