About Hanna Lawyers

We are a locally owned and operated law firm providing legal services throughout the Illawarra. The firm offers practical legal

We are a locally owned and operated law firm providing legal services throughout the Illawarra. The firm offers practical legal advice and personal service based on a real appreciation of our clients’ needs.

We practice in various areas of law specialising in compensation, litigation, traffic law, property and succession law.

As a small law firm we pride ourselves on providing a personal service in which the client deals directly with the solicitor with carriage of the matter.

We provide a high quality service which is efficient and affordable.

Areas of Law

Compensation
Compensation law covers deliberate and negligent acts which result in injury to your person. These situations may arise while driving, at work or while at a public place such as a shopping centre. Clause 24 of the Legal Profession Regulation limits the information we are able to provide to NSW residents who are not clients of the firm in relation to the services we provide in the area of compensation law. We invite you to contact us via email, telephone or by completing our online enquiry form so you can be informed about your claim. We do not charge any fee to meet with you and discuss your compensation entitlements, and work on a “no win, no fee”* basis in these types of matters.
* Conditions Apply.

Property law
We find that in most circumstances, a client’s first ever contact with a solicitor will occur when they are buying or selling their home.
Depending on whether we are instructed to act for the seller (vendor) or the buyer (purchaser) our Property Law Division role includes:
Preparing the contract for sale
Ordering a building & Report on a property
Order a Strata Report on a property
Reviewing the entire Contract including any special conditions
Ensuring your finance is unconditionally approved
Exchanging contracts
Attending to either stamp duty exemption or payment of stamp duty
Reviewing loan and mortgage documents
Preparing settlement figures
Attending settlement to ensure a smooth completion of your sale or purchase

Our property team has a reputation for being efficient. We know that timing is crucial and may be the difference between securing your dream home or losing it to another buyer who gets in first!

Criminal Law including Drink Driving Offences
If you’ve been charged with a criminal or traffic offence you don’t have to face it alone. The outcome of your Court case might be life changing, so give yourself the best possible chance with one of our traffic lawyers or criminal defence lawyers.

We will advise you of your rights, get you ready for your Court appearance and explain the Court procedures so you understand what’s happening. In Court we’ll defend your case clearly and strongly to give you the best possible outcome.

We can handle all areas of criminal law, including:
Traffic and vehicle offences – exceed the prescribed content of alcohol (drink driving), drive while disqualified or suspended, drive without a licence, other driving offences
Acts intended to cause injury – including common assault, serious assault resulting in injury, stalking, serious assault not resulting in injury
Theft – including theft from retail premises, receiving or handling the proceeds of crime, theft of intellectual property
Illicit drug offences – possession, cultivation or dealing in illicit drugs
Property damage – graffiti, fire and explosion
Dangerous or negligent acts endangering persons – driving under the influence of alcohol or other substance (DUI), Dangerous or negligent driving

Civil litigation including Debt Recovery
Civil litigation is a legal dispute between two or more parties that seek money, damages or specific performance rather than criminal sanctions. It covers many areas of law including: compensation law, deceased estates and debt recovery.

Hanna Lawyers offers expert representation in Court and unique skills for civil litigation. We can assist with:
Advising clients of action plans
Calculating damages & costing litigation matters
Initiating actions & the filing and serving process
Responding to actions
Obtaining/managing evidence
Court case management
Briefing of counsel
Negotiating settlements and terms
Drafting affidavits and orders
Acting on default judgments
Acting in interlocutory proceeding
Enforcing judgments and orders

We can also assist you with debt recovery matters, that is, disputes between parties about money.

At Hanna Lawyers we understand that parties involved in disputes about money often do not have the resources to spend trying to recover a debt or defend a debt recovery claim, so we explore every alternative to court on behalf of our clients.

Succession Law
The area of succession law concerns what will happen to your assets in the event of your death, management of finances and/or health and lifestyle decisions while you are still alive but incapable of managing these issues.

Planning for your family’s future after you’re gone is a really important legal task. If you take the time now to make an effective legally binding Will and Testament you can save your family not only stress but money in what will undoubtedly be a difficult time for them.

Hanna Lawyers can help:
Advise you in regard to estate and Probate laws
Write a will that maximises the inheritance for your family
Set up testamentary trusts
Advise you in regard to choosing Executors, Guardians and Attorneys
Minimise the chance that your will is contested and subject to litigation
Safely store your will and other important legal documents

At the same time as considering your Will we strongly recommend that you also put in place plans for any future incapacity through Power of Attorney and Guardianship documents. This will ensure that if you somehow become unable to make decisions about your finances, your medical treatment or living arrangements then the person or persons who you trust to make these decisions can do so unhindered.

Family Law
Family law is the area of law that deals with family matters like divorce, children and property.

At Hanna Lawyers we understand that the breakdown of a family unit is one of the most difficult times for adults and children alike. We believe, where possible, in taking a conciliatory approach to help mediate an appropriate outcome to any property and parenting issues between the parties, to help families transition through this difficult time quickly and with minimal expense.

Hanna Lawyers can provide assistance for a range of matters relating to family law and de facto relationships, including:
Binding Financial Agreements (prenups)
Divorce in Australia including preparing and serving divorce papers
Spousal maintenance
Property settlements
Domestic and family violence and apprehended violence orders (AVOs)
Legal representation at Family Court
