About Currumbin, QLD
Located in the Gold Coast region of Queensland and part of the Gold Coast City local government area, the residential suburb of Currumbin sits 3.5 kilometres south of Palm Beach, 9.8 kilometres southeast of Brisbane and 16.1 kilometres south of Gold Coast. It is flanked by the Pacific Motorway to its west and the Currumbin Creek to its north, which is crossed by the Gold Coast Highway coming from the south. The suburb’s name is believed to be an Aboriginal term for the kangaroo. While not a major resort town, Currumbin is frequented by many beach-goers for its discreet beach front that has become famous for surfing. Situated at the mouth of the Currumbin Creek, the so-called Currumbin Alley surf break is touted as the most popular spot among longboard surfers. Other places of interest include Gold Coast Theme Park/Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Currumbin Conservation Park, 2 Bent Rods (which offers fishing classes and programs), Wallace Nicoll Park, and Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Saving Club.
