    About Forster, NSW
Forster is a coastal town in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, approximately 308 km’s north east of Sydney and has a population of about 20,000 people. Forster is actually pronounced “Foster” and was named after William Forster who was briefly Premier of New South Wales and who later served as Agent-General in London. Due to its location along the coastline, and home amongst the “Great Lakes” region of New South Wales, the town along with its adjacent twin, Tuncurry has become a haven for holidaymakers year round. Sharing a long history, the towns have always been connected. Before the completion of the current bridge in 1959 there was a punt. Forster Main Beach in the heart has netted rock pools, ocean baths, child friendly lagoons and excellent surfing conditions. This picturesque little town is a welcoming spot for those wishing to explore the Boot Booti National Park which stretches just South of Forster, hike the Bicentennial Trail, or sample fresh local oysters farmed in Wallis Lake. There are few places in the State that offer such a splendid choice of fishing, deep-sea, rock, river or beach. The stretch of beach known as “One Mile” located near the residential area of Forster is extremely popular for tourists. It is a patrolled beach in holiday season and on weekends and hosts BBQ facilities, playground equipment and access to the Bennetts Head Lookout with 360 degree views. Dolphins can regularly be sighted surfing waves off the coast in the clear water.
