Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between rekeying and changing a lock?
Changing a lock refers to your locksmith simply replacing the current lock on your door with a new one. Rekeying, however, is slightly different - the lock is taken apart and some of its parts are replaced, such as the key pins and tumblers. This means the old keys will no longer work and new ones will be made. It essentially alters your lock’s mechanism rather than replacing it altogether.
Should I change my locks or rekey them?
Rekeying is usually cheaper, so this tends to be the preferred option for most people if they lose their keys. However, there are certain situations where changing the lock entirely may be necessary, such as when your current lock is damaged, old or worn out, as this can present a safety issue.
