About Hamilton, NSW
Hamilton is a suburb of the Newcastle metropolitan area in New South Wales, and is situated 4 kilometres from the Newcastle central business district and 158 kilometres northeast of Sydney. Hamilton, named after then Governor of the Australian Agricultural Company’s board of directors Edward Terrick Hamilton, was declared a municipality in December 1871. The suburb’s main commercial centre is located along Beaumont Street, and is known for the vibrant multi-cultural atmosphere exuded by various restaurants, retail stores, boutiques and commercial outlets. Aside from the suburb’s own Gregson Park, there are also many other parks and places of interest in the surrounding suburbs, such as the Newcastle Showground, Broadmeadow Racecourse, Wickham Park and Islington Park.
