About Cardwell Bush Telegraph Heritage Centre

The Cardwell Post Office & Telegraph Station, built in 1870, is one of the oldest buildingds in North Queensland. The building has been entered on the Queensland Heritage Register, the Register of the Nation Trust & the Register of the National Estate of the Australian Heritage Commission.

The folks who run this place should be proud! This place is a gold mine if you are remotely interested in the history of the far north, particularly about infrastructure. Well worth the visit when driving through Cardwell. They have some neat setups with beautiful old equipment.

Cardwell Bush Telegraph Heritage Centre is a gem that shouldn’t be missed. They have excellent information and interactive displays. Thanks to Cardwell for restoring this building, and creating such a pleasant surprise on the side of the highway. Cardwell Bush Telegraph Heritage Centre is an absolutely wonderful place to stop for a little while and learn about the history of Northern Queensland.
