Hearing loss can be such a debilitating issue, especially as we age. Alarm bells ring when we watch TV and can hear the speech but can make no sense of it. It's embarrassing to constantly have to apologise for "being deaf" or to ask someone to continually repeat what they say. It is a scary place to visit for a lot of people.
