About Goonellabah, NSW
Goonellabah is an eastern suburb of Lismore in New South Wales on the Bruxner Highway. Tucki Tucki Creek runs through the centre.
Mostly residential, Goonellabah Village takes up a vast amount of area, housing the two major food outlets Coles and Woolworths and numerous franchise and boutique stores and community services.
The small district has primary and high schools, several parks including Weston Park, Elders Memorial Park and Kadina Park that has a walking track.
The Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre is a popular place catering to locals, housing a health centre that has a gym, meeting and conference facilities, sports stadium, vacation care, a crèche and a café.
Perhaps of note to the area is the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses’ and also a Catholic Monastry – The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Goonellabah. An enclosed community of nuns that live according to the Rule of Carmel, which was first used by hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. Their way of life was established by St Teresa of Jesus, at Avila, Spain over 400 years ago.
The suburb also has a cemetery and crematorium.
