Wagait Beach is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Wagait Shire Council in the Northern Territory. In 1893, Mackillop first recorded the term Wagait or its derivative Wogait in reference to the indigenous tribe that settled in the coastal area in the northern part of the Dal River. The coastal community’s name was then changed and derived from the Wagait Tower in the area. This structure was built during World War II and provided an overlooking view of the beach before it was destroyed in 1974. There are many different types of businesses and services in Wagait Beach, including surfing equipment and accessories, swimwear apparel stores, motel and hotel accommodations, yacht clubs, retail florists and serviced apartments.
