Marrara is a suburban town located in the local government area of the City of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The suburb’s name was supposedly derived from an Aboriginal word. The first signs of development took place in Marrara between the 1970s and the 1980s. Today, it has become a residential community with parklands, different civic amenities and a number of schools. Some of the recreational facilities and commercial establishments in the suburb include the Austar Park (Darwin Football Stadium), Marrara Sporting Complex, Malak Oval, Darwin Golf Club, Malak Shopping Centre, Northlakes Shopping Centre and the Malak Community Centre. Tourists are able to reach Marrara quite easily since the town is bordered to the south by the Darwin International Airport.
