Lambells Lagoon is a suburban area in Darwin, Northern Territory. It is within the local government area of the Litchfield Municipality, which was created in 1985. The Litchfield area was originally inhabited by the Larkia, Woolner and Djowei Aboriginal people, with European settlers arriving in 1864. Its name was said to have been derived from that of Frederick Henry Litchfield, a member of an early settlement and survey group. The Overland Telegraph Line was constructed sometime between the 1870s and 1880s, with more growth happening after the war. In 1985, the Litchfield Shire was proclaimed by an Act of the Northern Territory Parliament. The same year, an election for the first council members was held. The shire became a municipality in 2008 under the Local Government Act 2008.
