Coconut Grove is a suburban town located in the local government area of the City of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The town got its name from the grove of coconuts located on the suburb’s coastal border. Although Coconut Grove has gone through a major growth process in the 1960s, the area’s development could be traced from the pre-war era. During this time, the town was originally used for farming purposes. Today, Coconut Grove is a residential community and light industrial town.
The suburb’s proximity to the beach allows it to be a tourist destination during the summer holidays. There are other recreational facilities, commercial establishments and services just a short distance away from Coconut Grove, including the Nightcliff Sporting Complex.
