A suburb in the Greater Taree Region of New South Wales, Cundletown is located about 74 kilometres south of the town of Port Macquarie and 175 kilometres north of the city of Newcastle. Its name was derived from “cun-del cun-del,” the Aboriginal word for a small, thorny plant that produces orange-coloured berries (similar to cockspur) that were found in the area. The area was surveyed in 1844 and the first sale of land was advertised in October 1855. Those who are interested in Cundletown’s history are encouraged to visit the Cundletown Lower Manning Historical Society, Inc in the Melvie Chick Historical Museum, where tourists can pick up a Heritage Walk brochure showing the town’s historical places of interest.
