Bargo is a small community in the local government area of Wollondilly Shire in the New South Wales region. Previously called West Bargo and Cobargo, the town’s railway station opened on July 19, 1919. The service was known as West Bargo before being renamed Bargo in 1921. Other facilities common in the suburb include sporting fields, a racetrack, tennis courts and a skate park. Commercial infrastructure and services such as supermarkets, a hotel, post office, newsagents, restaurants, petrol stations and a pharmacy are also present in Bargo.
Tourism is an essential part of the local economy. Bargo’s recreational and tourist sites include the Nepean and Avon Dams, the Wirrimbirra Sanctuary and the Mermaid Pools and the Potholes.
