Balgownie Village, the central hub, offers locals conveniences including The Bally Pub, Balgownie Village Patisserie, The Urban Grind Café and the town has its own War Memorial.
Opened in 1989, the Balgownie Primary School Museum aims to preserve the history of the area, through artifacts, documents and photographs of the social and working lives of the community of Balgownie.
School photographic records, stories, letters and work samples of pupils are housed here dating back to 1890.
As the coal mining industry is closely linked to the town, the museum displays a model of a work area at the coal-face as it would have been in 1860.
Perhaps most unique to Balgownie is that the area features the oldest active soccer club in Australia. The Balgownie Rangers founded in 1883.
