Figtree is an inner western suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales. It is located slightly south west of West Wollongong and bypassed by the Princess Highway.
A giant fig tree grew on the eastern side of the highway at the junction of O’Briens Road which gave rise to the name “Figtree”, it was an iconic landmark and when foreigners were directed to the area back in the early days, they would be told to “turn off at the figtree”. However the figtree was taken down in 1996 due to disease and only a small portion of the stump still remains.

Adjacent to the centre is a park, which encompasses sports facilities, a baby health centre and a small sculpture garden. A community support structure of several schools, a private hospital, health care facilities, a community hall and bowling club exist.
Figtree is also home to the Port Kembla Sailing Club offices.
A district full of green spaces and parks, including Figtree Park, Sid Parish Park and the connected Harry Graham and Roy Johanson Park cater to the locals.
