Dapto is a small suburb of Wollongong in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. It is bypassed by the M1 Princes Motorway and also has a central train station connected to the main rail network.
Mostly residential with several commercial areas, much of the land west is still used as farmland.
The suburb has a main high school, primary school and Dapto TAFE college, aged care and other community facilities. Dapto Mall houses major retail outlets, boutique and common franchise stores, banks, a post office and a car wash.
Most renowned to the district is the Dapto Greyhound Racing Club or as it is colloquially known, the “Dapto Dogs”. Race meets occur 6pm to 11pm every Thursday evening.

Dapto Showground Markets, one of the largest and most popular on the South Coast of New South Wales has been operating for 16 years. Running every Sunday, there are over 400 stall sites, covered and outdoor stalls that blanket the entire show ground with a vibrant country atmosphere.
Also at the grounds held annually is the Dapto Show, presented by the Dapto A & H Society Inc, its history spans back more than 150 years, offering events, fun rides and show food to entertain the locals for a whole weekend.
