Harrington is a suburban town located in the local government area of the Greater Taree City Council in the state of New South Wales. The town’s name was derived from the Earl of Harrington. In 1860, the establishment of a pilot station as a navigational aid for ships entering the Manning River is considered as the primary reason for the beginning of settlement in the area. Harrington was known as a fishing village and resort town in the early times. Today, the town has progressed into a residential community with several landmarks and recreational sites, including the Harrington Beach State Park, Harrington Inlet, Harrington Lagoon, Crowdy Bay National Park, Cattai Wetlands, Johns River Hall & Recreation Reserve, Crowdy Head Lighthouse, Crowdy Head Beach, Muir Park, Oxley Reserve, Harrington Beach, Esmond Hogan Park and the Kylies Beach.
