A parish and village under the local government area of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Ellenborough is situated 34.5 kilometres west of Wauchope, approximately 71 kilometres east of Walcha, 83.5 kilometres southwest of Kempsey and 412 kilometres northeast of the state capital of Sydney. The main township of Ellenborough sits on the junction of the Oxley Highway and the Hastings River on the northern tip of the town. A portion of the Bulga State Forest and Biriwal Bulga National juts into the town from the west. John Oxley was a surveyor and explorer who named the village after Edward Law, First Baron Ellenborough and Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Because of its diverse range of flora species, birds and native animals, Ellenborough is worth a visit for avid bird watchers and nature trippers.
