Rous Mill is a town within the local government area of the Ballina Shire in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, adjacent to the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Highway. The shire was formed in 1976 after the Municipality of Ballina and the Tintenbar Shire merged. Because of its many beaches and recreational facilities, the Ballina Shire is popular with tourists, especially during the holiday season. The Tassiriki Beach is one of the more well-known beaches in the area. People flock to the beach because of its cabin-style accommodations and the variety of horse-riding activities available to its patrons. The beach occupies 40 acres of grasslands and is less than a kilometre away from the South Ballina Beach.
