Lismore is home to the main campus of Southern Cross University, which has other campuses in Coffs Harbour and the Gold Coast. Norco has its main headquarters in the town, an Australian farmer owned co-operative since 1895 producing local milk, yoghurt, cheese and dairy products and who specialise in contract manufacturing for national and international companies. Lismore Regional Gallery is the oldest cultural organisation in the Northern Rivers. Established in 1954 it provides an innovative and largely self-generated program of exhibitions and events each year showcasing the creative, artistic and slightly alternate talent in the region. The township of Lismore encompasses a much larger area, with quirky unique villages, cultural diversity, relaxed lifestyles and is perched on the doorstep to the World Heritage National Parks such as Nightcap and Border Ranges offering easy access to walking trails, waterfalls, ridges and valleys.
