Lismore is a subtropical town in north eastern New South Wales. It is situated on the Bruxner Highway and lies at the confluence of the Wilsons River and Leycester Creek.
The state capital Sydney is approximately 764 km’s and Queensland’s state capital Brisbane is 200 km’s to the north.
Lismore is a lush bountiful region with rich growing soil and was once part of a rainforest named the “Big Scrub”. Remnant patches of the rainforest still remain throughout the township, but today it is one of Australia’s most prominent coffee growing areas and home of the macadamia nut. Northern Rivers is haven for local gourmet cuisine. Growing within the surrounds is an abundance of avocados, tropical and stone fruits, blueberries, pecans, organic produce, aniseed myrtle along with beef, pork and a variety of other dairy products.
Lismore is home to the main campus of Southern Cross University, which has other campuses in Coffs Harbour, and the Gold Coast. Many students from approximately 80 other countries utilise the university studying remotely and the district has renowned private and public schools.
Norco has its main headquarters in the town, an Australian farmer owned co-operative since 1895 producing local milk, yoghurt, cheese and dairy products and who specialise in contract manufacturing for national and international companies.
Lismore Regional Gallery is the oldest cultural organisation in the Northern Rivers. Established in 1954 it provides an innovative and largely self-generated program of exhibitions and events each year showcasing the creative, artistic and slightly alternate talent in the region.
The township of Lismore encompasses a much larger area, with quirky unique villages, cultural diversity, relaxed lifestyles and is perched on the doorstep to the World Heritage National Parks such as Nightcap and Border Ranges offering easy access to walking trails, waterfalls, ridges and valleys.
