Forster is a coastal town in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, approximately 308 km’s north east of Sydney and has a population of about 20,000 people.
Forster is actually pronounced “Foster” and was named after William Forster who was briefly Premier of New South Wales and who later served as Agent-General in London.
Due to its location along the coastline, and home amongst the “Great Lakes” region of New South Wales, the town along with its adjacent twin, Tuncurry has become a haven for holidaymakers year round. Sharing a long history, the towns have always been connected. Before the completion of the current bridge in 1959 there was a punt.
