A suburb in the eastern-most portion of the City of Maitland local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Woodbery is situated 156 kilometres north of Sydney, 22.5 kilometres northwest of Newcastle and 13.9 kilometres east-southeast of the town of Maitland. While most of Woodberry’s residents live in subdivisions, almost 84% of the suburb is comprised of rural lands. To its west lies the Hunter River, with 2.4 kilometres of it serving as the suburb’s eastern border and separating it from the suburbs of Heatherbrae and Tomago. Parkwood is also connected by road to the adjoining suburbs of Tarro and Beresfield to its south and Millers Forest to its north.
