Windale is a suburban town located in the local government area of the City of Lake Macquarie in the state of New South Wales. The town’s name was derived from Vere James Winn, who was one of the first settlers in Windale. The suburb was originally known as Surprise Township, but it was later changed in 1913 and the town adopted the name of Surprise Town. It was in March 1951 when the current name of the suburb was gazetted as a result of the Surprise Town Progress Association’s initiative.
