The Hill is a residential suburb located in Newcastle. Henry Dangar was responsible for laying out the plans of the suburb in 1823. The area was first called Church Hill then it was changed to Prospect Hill before finally being called The Hill. Newcastle started to grow economically in the 1860s. Middleclass residents in the suburb selected The Hill to be the place for fine houses that stand up to this day. The Hill consists of several Victorian terraces that show the rich culture in the area. There is a park in The Hill called King Edward Park where residents and visitors can engage in recreational activities. It is complete with a children’s playground, picnic grounds and electric barbecues for everyone to enjoy.
