New Lambton is a suburb of Newcastle in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. It is located approximately 6 km’s west of Newcastle CBD. Two major arterial roads wind through the suburb providing easy access to the Newcastle region and also to other major transport options.
Initially a coal-mining township, it is today predominately residential although Black Butt Reserve consisting of 182 hectares of natural bush setting occupies much of the entire south-western part of the suburb. New Lambton is a suburb of Newcastle in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. It is located approximately 6 km’s west of Newcastle CBD. Two major arterial roads wind through the suburb providing easy access to the Newcastle region and also to other major transport options.
Initially a coal-mining township, it is today predominately residential although Black Butt Reserve consisting of 182 hectares of natural bush setting occupies much of the entire south-western part of the suburb. It offers visitors and locals peaceful picnic settings with electric and wood fire barbeques, open spaces, nature trails, and a diverse range of habitats and ecosystems. It also feature modern spacious wildlife exhibits which allow for close viewing of the animals, including koalas, wombats, native birds, emus and kangaroos and there is kiosk for tea, coffee, snacks and souvenirs.
The locality has several parks and other green spaces including Lambton Park, which houses multiple ovals for sports and recreation. New Lambton is also home to the Newcastle International Sports Centre, comprising the Hunter Stadium, home ground to the National Rugby Leagues Newcastle Knights.
Five schools, numerous childcare options, a local library and various churches with a mix of denominations service the area. The Commercial centre provides a supermarket, and mixed business facilities including banks and café’s and the suburb is also within travelling distance to Westfield Kotara.
In close proximity to New Lambton in the neighbouring suburb of New Lambton Heights which accommodates the John Hunter Hospital and the Newcastle Private Hospital.
