Dora Creek, located on the west side of Lake Macquarie, is a rural suburb. The area was named after the creek that runs through the suburb. It was formerly called Doree Doree, an Aboriginal name that translates to “creek running into a lake”. Dora Creek is popular among locals and tourists for its relaxing atmosphere, which is ideal for nature lovers. It is also located near the Watagan Mountains, a rainforest filled with eucalyptus trees and camping areas, with a peak of 641 metres above the sea level. The Lake Macquarie Council puts emphasis on the conservation of Dora Creek. They educate the public on the importance of protecting waterways and creeks and have made major restorations to the creek’s foreshore.
