The suburb of Balcolyn is located on the western side of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales. It is situated on a peninsula just east of Morisset; a commercial centre and suburb of Lake Macquarie.
A popular Christian education campsite, run by the Crusader Union of Australia, is located at Balcolyn. A number of recreational activities popular around Balcolyn and surrounding coastal regions include sailing, canoeing, fishing and paddle boarding. The Crusader Union Campsite facilitates such activities for campers.
Although there are a few stretches of parkland within the Balcolyn region, the popular Yarrawonga Park is located just to the south of the suburb.
