Manilla is a suburban area located in the local government area of the Tamworth Regional Council in the state of New South Wales. The suburb is a popular site for fishing and paragliding. Manilla is derived from the Gamilaraay language, which means “winding river”. In the 1850s, the suburb was formed at the intersection of the Namoi River and the Manilla River, which was originally a camp site for the local Aboriginal people from the Kamilaroi tribe.
In the present time, Manilla is now considered to be a well-known major sports centre for hang gliding, gliders and gyrocopters. The town’s proximity to Mt. Borah makes it one of the best launch sites in the world for paragliding and hang gliding, giving adventurers a bird’s-eye view of beautiful landscapes.
