Today, the township itself is concentrated in the northern portion of the village, along the Gwydir Highway. While a predominantly residential village surrounded mostly by rural lands, Gravesend also has a public school, a hotel, recreation and rodeo grounds, a historical museum, a community centre, a park with play equipment, a district nurse and a general store. The Gwydir River, which flows through the north of the township, also offers good camping grounds, swimming areas and fishing spots.
