The suburb of Daruka is situated in the outer part of Tamworth in New South Wales. It is located in the Daruka Valley and adjacent to the suburbs of North Tamworth and Moore Creek. Daruka is under the local government area of the Tamworth Regional Council. Daruka is a residential area with large property lots, so residents are of a high socio-economic class. Although early settlement in Daruka began in the mid-1800s, it was only in the late 19th century when the town began to prosper because of thriving wine, fruit and crop growing industries. Tobacco was also grown in the area of Daruka from the early 20th century until the 1960s. Because of the suburb’s proximity to Tamworth, residents of Daruka usually go there for services and facilities such as Endeavour Park, where a variety of recreational and fitness activities can be done.
