Balala is situated in the Northern Tablelands in New South Wales. Roumalla Creek and Molong Creek run through the Balala region. In the 19th century, the region attracted squatters looking for sheep grazing land. Balala is located around the Granite Belt and cherry is grown around the area.
One of the closest towns to Balala is at Uralla, a 27-minute drive to the east. Uralla is a historic township with a caravan park, hotel, visitor centre and pre-school.
