Salt Ash is a suburb located in New South Wales’ Hunter Region, under the Port Stephens local government area. Situated between Newcastle and Nelson Bay, Salt Ash is a mostly undeveloped rural suburb because of its proximity to the Salt Ash Air Weapons Range. The range is primarily used as training grounds for the pilots from RAAF Base Williamtown. The town also has a community hall that has a veranda and playground area for children. Salt Ash is also near Stockton Beach, a popular beach for camping that has been the site of many shipwrecks and aircraft crashes during wars, providing an interesting history for curiosity seekers. The beach is also popular with fishermen because of the wide variety of fish found in the area.
