Located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Medowie is a suburb within the Port Stephens local government area. Situated 34 kilometres north of Newcastle by road, its proximity to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Williamtown has made Medowie home to many RAAF personnel holding posts there. The suburb used to be a small rural town, but a property and commercial boom during the 1980s allowed the development of infrastructure, residential areas, schools and industries. Medowie also has several sporting clubs for various sports such as cricket, soccer, rugby union, golf, netball and tennis. It also has a Rural Fire Station that was established in 1946.
