A suburb under the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, Kahibah is located 9 kilometres west-southwest of Newcastle, 2 kilometres east-northeast of Charlestown and 145 kilometres northeast of Sydney. It is the nearest town to the Glenrock Lagoon, which flows from the east, forks into Flaggy Creek and Little Flaggy Creek then runs through the town, flanking it from the north and south. The suburb’s name was derived from the Aboriginal word “ky-yee-bah,” which meant either “a place for games” or “to be active and eager.” Kahibah’s township was declared on February 27, 1894. The Great North Walk, a walking track that runs from Sydney to Newcastle, passes through the suburb. It utilises a short portion of The Fernleigh Track and continues along the northern side of Glenrock Lagoon to reach the coast.
