There are several large medical practices, a library, the Umina State Primary School, Brisbane Water Secondary College and a variety of local conveniences such as restaurants, takeaways and small businesses. The suburb is divided well with main arterial roads connecting to neighbouring areas and also provides substantial parking in its central hub making it popular and easy for residents.
Umina beach is still a sought after holiday spot, sitting on the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, it has one long unbroken sandy shoreline, that is broken up into two sections, Umina Beach and Ocean Beach. Both are served by their own Surf Living Saving Clubs.
The town borders Brisbane Waters National Park where visitors can experience 12,000 hectares of amazing rugged sandstone country, including Aboriginal carvings, wildlife and walking tracks. Mt Ettalong lookout or Umina Point at the southern end of the beach provides amazing panoramic views of Umina and Ettalong, as well as south along Broken Bay and Palm Beach.
