It is also home to the Coonamble Shire Council comprising the towns of Coonamble, Gulargambone with the village of Quambone.
A unique major event to the area is the Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft held over the June long weekend. The biggest rodeo event in the Southern Hemisphere drawing enthusiasts annually to experience trade exhibitions, quilting exhibition, entertainment, and numerous food stalls.
Coonamble also hosts the Greyhound Festival yearly, with competitors entering state-wide, it proves one of the biggest calendar events in Greyhound Racing.
