Wyoming is a suburb of the Central Coast in New South Wales located 4 km’s north-east of the Gosford central business district.
The land was named after the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania made famous by the 1809 poem “Gertrude of Wyoming”.
Predominantly a residential suburb, the first building was the pub, built by convicts in 1854 and still standing.
Today, the town comprises a small shopping centre housing Coles, an Aldi’s, fast-food outlets, petrol stations and other various local community stores including a medical centre. Three primary schools service the area, and a range of multidenominational churches.
Wyoming Community Centre, a popular neighbourhood hub, offers a range of activities and services to the locals including rooms for hire for casual or function purposes. The Book Club, Mental Health Support Group, Yoga and Zumba, computer and cooking classes. Volunteers from the Community Garden also meet here.
Surrounded by a multitude of reserves and green spaces, many residential streets in Wyoming are bordered by sub-tropical rainforest, providing interesting bushwalking opportunities.
