Point Clare is in the Central Coast Region of New South Wales. It is a suburb under the local government area of the City of Gosford. It is situated 4 kilometres southwest of Gosford, 76 kilometres northeast of Sydney and 31.6 kilometres south of Wyong. The areas of present-day Point Clare, Tascott and Koolewong that are facing the Brisbane Water are said to be part of the settlement of the Aboriginal Guringai people. European settlement in the area dates back to the late 1830s, with cattle raising and timber gathering among the earliest industries. Point Clare is said to be named after County Clare in Ireland. The suburb has a railway station on the Main North railway line, a park, a bike lane and a cemetery.
