A suburb under the Wyong Shire local government area, Kanwal is located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, and lies around 9 kilometres northeast of Wyong, 55 kilometres south of Newcastle and 90 kilometres north of Sydney. The suburb’s name is a local Aboriginal word believed to mean “snakes indeed.” The area also used to be a subdivision of Warnervale, a neighbour suburb to the west of town. Kanwal has several sporting venues, including three sporting ovals and two netball courts. The best known of these spots is the Wyong Rugby League Club in the north-eastern part of the suburb. Kanwal also has a number of parks, the most prominent being Craigie Park to east, which leads to the Tuggerah Lake.
