Canton Beach is situated on the Central Coast of New South Wales and is a suburb of the Wyong Shire. Chinese fishermen worked in the area now known as Canton Beach in the late 1850s. It is believed that the presence of the Chinese fishermen influenced the naming of the area, although this has not been confirmed. Many sea vessels were wrecked in the area, which prompted the government to build a lighthouse at Norah Head in 1903. Canton Beach is adjacent to Tugerrah Lakes, which is known as a great fishing spot and an excellent avenue for recreational water sports. People usually flock to the lake for water-skiing, sailing, rowing, windsurfing and fishing. The lakes are shark-free, which makes it extra popular with families and children.
