University Avenue Veterinary HospitalMy dog is double coated and I need to get her deshedded, not style groomed. This was the first time I have booked her into Plush Pets and I was so pleased with the service they provided and with the excellent job they did. My dog does not like her feet being touched but they managed to cut her nails and trim her feet fur, and for that I thank them. She will be much more comfortable now in the current hot weather.

Plush Pet StylistTasman is a great vet and a very nice man, and I'm so glad someone recommended him to me. I wouldn't take my beautiful greyhound Coco to anyone else. She and I both trust Tasman.

How can I make an appointment with a vet near me for my new puppy?
To ensure your new puppy receives the best start in life, making an early appointment with a veterinarian is crucial. Here’s how you can proceed:
- Research: Utilise Localsearch to explore a list of qualified veterinarians near Anula.
- Contact: Select a vet based on their services and reviews, then reach out via phone or email to schedule an appointment.
- Prepare: Gather any relevant documents, such as your puppy’s medical history or any records from the breeder or shelter.
Remember, an early appointment is essential for vaccinations, health screenings and advice on nutrition and care for your young pup.
What should I expect during the first consultation for my pet?
The first consultation is a foundational step in your pet’s health journey. Here’s what typically happens:
- Arrival: Upon arrival, you’ll likely fill out some paperwork regarding your pet’s medical history.
- Physical Examination: The vet will conduct a thorough physical exam to assess your pet’s overall health.
- Discussion: You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your pet’s behaviour, diet and any concerns or questions you have.
- Advice: The vet will provide advice on preventative care, vaccinations and any necessary treatments.
Following this visit, you should have a clear understanding of your pet’s health status and how to support their well-being.
Are there specific considerations for certain breeds when it comes to health risks?
Yes, different breeds may have unique health risks and considerations, including:
- Breed-specific Ailments: Some breeds are predisposed to certain conditions, such as hip dysplasia in larger dogs or respiratory issues in brachycephalic breeds.
- Preventative Measures: Early screening and regular check-ups can help catch and manage these conditions before they become serious.
- Tailored Care: Your vet can advise on specific diets, exercise and health monitoring tailored to your pet’s breed.
Understanding these breed-specific risks allows you to take proactive steps in managing your pet’s health effectively.
How do I know if my pet needs an Elizabethan collar?
Identifying the need for an Elizabethan collar involves:
- Assessment: Your vet will assess your pet’s condition, especially after surgery or if there are wounds that need healing.
- Protection: If there’s a risk of your pet licking, biting, or scratching at these areas, an Elizabethan collar will be recommended.
- Guidance: Follow your vet’s advice on how long the collar should be worn and how to ensure your pet’s comfort while wearing it.
This preventative measure is crucial for your pet’s recovery and to prevent infections or complications.
Can the vet provide advice on pet insurance options?
Certainly, veterinarians are a valuable resource for advice on pet insurance options. They can:
- Explain the importance of pet insurance in managing the costs of veterinary care.
- Discuss different plans and what they cover, helping you understand the benefits and limitations of each.
- Offer insights on what to consider based on your pet’s breed, age and existing health conditions.
Getting advice on pet insurance early in your pet’s life can be incredibly beneficial, ensuring they are covered for both routine healthcare and unexpected illnesses or injuries.
